Best camera drones of 2026: which DJI to buy
Updated 2026-10-30 · 5 min read · prices update with every price check
Drones have become one of the most popular cameras to buy, and almost every one people ask us about is a DJI. The hard part isn't finding a good drone, it's choosing between eleven of them whose names all sound the same. This post sorts them by what you will actually use them for.
Every spec below is from DJI's own spec sheets, and every price is today's cheapest new price at the stores we check (the drone with its standard remote; Fly More combos with extra batteries are listed separately on each drone's page). A dash means no store we track has it in stock at the moment, not that it costs nothing. You can see them all on our drone price page.

Three numbers matter most:
- Sensor size. Bigger sensors cope better with sunsets, shade and anything after dark. The jump from the 1/1.3-inch sensors to the 1-inch sensors of the Mini 5 Pro and Air 3S is the biggest image-quality step in the range, and the Four Thirds sensors in the Mavic line are bigger again.
- Weight. Many countries treat drones under 250 g more lightly. The Neo, Flip and every Mini sit under that line; the Air and Mavic drones don't. Rules change often and differ by country, so check your aviation authority before you fly.
- Obstacle sensing. Omnidirectional sensing is what stops an expensive drone flying backwards into a tree. Only the Mini Pro, Air and Mavic models have it.
Best first drone: DJI Neo or DJI Flip
The Neo is a palm-sized selfie drone that takes off from your hand and follows you. It is the cheapest way to get aerial shots, but its 12 MP sensor and short flight time make it a toy compared to the rest. The Flip costs more and is a far better camera: a 48 MP sensor, 4K at 100p and over half an hour of flight, with full propeller guards so it is safe to fly near people.
Best for most people: DJI Mini 5 Pro

The Mini 5 Pro puts a 1-inch sensor in a drone that still weighs under 250 g, with omnidirectional obstacle sensing and 4K at 120p. For travel, it is the one we would buy. If it is hard to find where you live, the Mini 4 Pro is the same idea with a smaller sensor, and its price has been falling since its successor arrived.
Best for serious photos: DJI Air 3S
The Air 3S pairs a 1-inch main camera with a second, longer camera, so you can shoot wide landscapes and tighter compositions from the same height. It is heavier than the Minis and flies longer. The older Air 3 is worth a look when it is discounted.
Best image quality: DJI Mavic 4 Pro

If image quality is the whole point, the Mavic line has the biggest sensors DJI makes for consumers. The Mavic 4 Pro has a 100 MP Four Thirds main camera. Not every market sells it: our catalog has its UK and European launch prices but no US one, so check the price lines above for where it is actually in stock.
Best for FPV: DJI Avata 2

The Avata 2 is a different kind of drone: you wear goggles and fly it like a bird, through gaps and around trees. It is built for exciting video rather than still photos.
