Updated 2026-10-30 · 2 min read · prices update with every price check
Full frame is no longer a luxury. Price cuts on older bodies and a wave of cheaper new ones mean there are now more full-frame cameras under $2,000 than there have ever been. The question is which one is worth your money.

What you give up at this price
The cheaper bodies save money in a few predictable places. Look for these on each camera's page:
- In-body stabilisation (IBIS). The original Canon EOS R8 doesn't have it, which matters with older or manual lenses. The Nikon Z5 II, Nikon Zf and Sony A7 IV do.
- Viewfinder. The Panasonic Lumix S9 and Nikon Z5IIc have none, which keeps them small. If you shoot in bright sun, you'll miss it.
- Weather sealing. Check the spec sheet before you take any of these out in the rain.
- Card slots and battery life. Cheaper bodies often have one slot and a smaller battery. That is fine for most people, but wedding and event shooters want two.
Our picks
- Best overall: Nikon Z5 II. Stabilised, weather sealed and fast to focus, for less than many APS-C cameras.
- Lightest: Canon EOS R8. The smallest way into Canon's RF system, if you can live without IBIS.
- Best for Sony lenses: Sony A7 IV. The previous generation, now cheaper since the A7 V arrived, and still one of the best all-rounders.
- Best looking: Nikon Zf. Retro dials outside, the same core as Nikon's mid-range bodies inside.
Don't forget used
Several cameras just above $2,000 new drop well under it used, including the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Panasonic Lumix S5 II. Our used price guide shows what they typically sell for.
