SL (Typ 601) overview
The Leica SL (Typ 601) is a 24 MP full-frame mirrorless camera for L-Mount, announced by Leica in October 2015. It has been followed by the Leica SL2.
Going by its spec sheet, it suits low light and bad weather. It is a weaker pick for slow handheld shots with unstabilised lenses.
No store we track in Europe has it new in stock today; used and refurbished copies start at €1,113.95.
Worth comparing it with the Leica SL2, Panasonic Lumix S1 and Sony α7 III.

Low light & noise
6.0 µm pixels
24 MP on a full frame sensor, ISO up to 50,000
Bigger pixels gather more light each, so they tend to show less noise at high ISO, but sensor design matters as much. For real noise at ISO 6400, these sites measure it:
- Photons to Photos: dynamic range vs ISO ↗Photographic dynamic range measured at every ISO, bodies on one chart
- Photons to Photos: noise vs ISO ↗Read noise at every ISO from lab tests: lower is cleaner in the shadows
- DPReview studio scene ↗The same scene shot by each camera at the ISO you pick, side by side
- DPReview reviews ↗Full reviews with high-ISO samples
- Low-light video tests ↗Real-world high-ISO footage on YouTube
How it stacks up
- 4.4M dots — a sharper viewfinder than 60% of the full frame mirrorless cameras we list
