KOMODO-X overview
The RED KOMODO-X is a 19.9 MP Super 35 cinema camera for Canon RF, announced by RED in May 2023.
Going by its spec sheet, it suits video. It is a weaker pick for slow handheld shots with unstabilised lenses, paid jobs that need a backup card and eye-level shooting in bright sun.
No store we track in the United Kingdom has it new in stock today; used and refurbished copies start at £4,686.70.
Worth comparing it with the Canon EOS C400, Sony FX6 and Canon EOS C500 Mark II.

Low light & noise
4.3 µm pixels
19.9 MP on a super 35 sensor, ISO up to 12,800
Bigger pixels gather more light each, so they tend to show less noise at high ISO, but sensor design matters as much. For real noise at ISO 6400, these sites measure it:
- Photons to Photos: dynamic range vs ISO ↗Photographic dynamic range measured at every ISO, bodies on one chart
- Photons to Photos: noise vs ISO ↗Read noise at every ISO from lab tests: lower is cleaner in the shadows
