α6100 overview

The Sony α6100 is a 24.2 MP APS-C mirrorless camera for Sony E-mount, announced by Sony in August 2019.

Going by its spec sheet, it suits travel and everyday carry. It is a weaker pick for rain and dust, slow handheld shots with unstabilised lenses, and paid jobs that need a backup card.

New, it sells for $819.95 to $848 at the 5 stores we track in the United States that have it in stock. It launched at $749 (body only).

Worth comparing it with the Canon EOS R10, Nikon Z50 and Fujifilm X-T30 II.

Low light & noise

3.9 µm pixels

24.2 MP on a aps-c sensor, ISO up to 32,000

Bigger pixels gather more light each, so they tend to show less noise at high ISO, but sensor design matters as much. For real noise at ISO 6400, these sites measure it:

How it stacks up

  • 420 shots — longer battery life than 77% of the aps-c mirrorless cameras we list
  • 396 g — lighter than 56% of the aps-c mirrorless cameras we list
