HERO12 Black overview
The GoPro HERO12 Black is a 27.1 MP 1/1.9-inch action camera with a built-in lens, announced by GoPro in September 2023. It has been followed by the GoPro HERO13 Black; both are still sold.
Going by its spec sheet, it suits travel and everyday carry, video, bad weather, and water and adventure. It is a weaker pick for paid jobs that need a backup card and eye-level shooting in bright sun.
New, it sells for $599.99 in the United States (Precision Camera); used and refurbished copies start at $110. It launched at $399.99.
Worth comparing it with the GoPro HERO11 Black, GoPro HERO13 Black and DJI Osmo Action 4.

Low light & noise
1.2 µm pixels
27.1 MP on a 1/1.9" sensor
Bigger pixels gather more light each, so they tend to show less noise at high ISO, but sensor design matters as much. For real noise at ISO 6400, these sites measure it:
- Photons to Photos: dynamic range vs ISO ↗Photographic dynamic range measured at every ISO, bodies on one chart
- Photons to Photos: noise vs ISO ↗Read noise at every ISO from lab tests: lower is cleaner in the shadows
